Top Ten Reasons to GiveBIG to Highline Schools Foundation

GiveBIG 2014

Highline Schools Foundation invites you to GiveBIG this Tuesday, May 6th during a one-day online giving event.

Online donations to the Foundation are STRETCHED THIS TUESDAY ONLY.

Reason #10
SCHOLARSHIPS
Every year, the Foundation sends bright, capable students from our district to college through our needs-based scholarship program Students who never thought they could consider college attend the school of their dreams, and ultimately, give back to our community.

Reason #9
ATHLETICS
Did you know that students in Highline have to pay to play sports? Many students in Highline can’t afford their sports participation fees. The Foundation helps these students play on their school teams—so they can enjoy being part of their school community–just like their classmates. Sports keep kids in school and productive!

Reason #8
The ARTS IN SCHOOLS
The Highline Schools Foundation supports programs that keep arts alive in our schools—like Music4Life—a great program that collects and refurbishes used instruments, and gets them to students so they can use them for band and orchestra.

Reason #7
INNOVATIVE LEARNING OPPORTUNITES
Highline Schools Foundation funds innovation. From robotics kits for a STEM based literacy program at Mount View Elementary, to fully-funding an innovative approach to peer mediation called “a positive behavior student advisory council” at Global Connections High School—the Foundation seeks out, and funds, unique opportunities for our students that keep Highline in the forefront of innovation in education.

Reason #6
EARLY LEARNING
The Foundation fully supports the district’s goal for students to enter school kindergarten ready. They provide supplies and resources to our Early Learning department, and grant dollars to Highline’s Early Learning Center at Valley View.

Reason #5
CLASSROOM GRANTS
If a Library needs more books, or a classroom needs a special field trip—they ask the Foundation, and the Foundation answers in the form of Excel Grants, directly for teacher’s needs. Last year, 75 Excel Grants were awarded district-wide.

Reason #4
PROJECT PROMISE
Many High School seniors want to enjoy their Prom, but can’t afford to go. The Highline Schools Foundation helps girls go their prom in style—for free! In Project Promise, over 100 girls are invited to shop for a dress, shoes, jewelry and other accessories. This feel-good program is one of the best self-esteem builders around!

Reason #3
THEY HEART TEACHERS
Each year, the Foundation welcomes nearly 100 new teachers to Highline Public Schools with “welcome boxes” filled with necessary supplies, coupons, and free items provided by our area’s local businesses.

Reason #2
THEY CELEBRATE EXCELLENCE
The Highline Schools Foundation’s Gold Star Awards have become prestigious honors recognizing our district’s best and brightest alumni, volunteers, administrators, teachers and staff. The Foundation works hard to recognize all of the great people who work hard on behalf of our students, every day.
