The ART of Community at Hilltop Elementary

The ART of Community at Hilltop Elementary – 2016 Excel Grant

Did you Know:

  • Highline Public Schools has nearly 20,000 students in 42 different school sites
  • 26% of our students are English Language Learners – meaning English is not the language they speak at home.  We have 101 different languages and dialects spoken at home in our district
  • As of May 2016, over 63% of our student population are on the free or reduced lunch program, meaning their family income falls below the poverty line
  • As of November, 2016, we have 697 students who qualify for McKinney-Vento services and over the last several years this number continues to increase in Highline
  • State Funding for Education makes up 64% of our district’s budget – forcing the District to find funding elsewhere in order to keep their core programs

Meeting the Need

The Highline Schools Foundation funding priorities focus on:

  • Programs to improve academic achievement
  • Supporting college and career readiness
  • Grants to teachers for engaging classroom projects
  • The Arts
  • Athletics
  • Programs that keep students in school and productive.
